Preface Link to heading Opinions expressed are solely my own and do not express the views or opinions of my employer(s). The same rule applies to rest of my blog posts. This is going to be one of those self-help blog posts, so please close this one if you’re not into all that.
Intro Link to heading Quite a few people struggle with making and achieving their goals. The reason I’m writing this blog post is to share my way of making and achieving goals.

Intro Link to heading Recently, I saw a job posting for a Graduate Penetration Tester from the company Project Black. Although I didn’t make the cut to qualify for the role (600+ people applied - talk about brutal lol), I was able to find all 6 flags for their CTF. In this blog post, I will go through challenge 5 from their website.
The challenge starts with a link to challenge5.

How to extract Hack The Box badges for your site

Background Link to heading So, someone told me that it was a good idea to showcase all my efforts on LinkedIn. Now, I don’t really mind doing that, but if I started showcasing all my HTB badges, it would have taken too much manual work. To avoid all that, I just extracted the json response from the HTB badges page and wrote a simple bash script to format it for a hugo post.

What fixing my earbuds taught me

Background Link to heading Last year, my earbuds decided they had served me long enough and that it was time to retire. Although it had been more than 3 years since I bought them, these were still expensive wireless earbuds. I remember paying upwards of 8,000 INR which is around $100 USD. Now, I don’t know about you, but I have survived off of 5-10 dollar earphones well into my 20s.

Intro Link to heading If you read my blog, you probably understand by now that I’m passionate about software. I’ve been trying to get to a point in my career where I’m able to audit source code and find issues in software projects not written by me. In fact, this is my “short” term goal for the next 5 years. Of course, you don’t need to read the source to be able to find bugs, there are other ways.

Preface Link to heading Do you live in a house with no Ethernet wiring? Do you have an old broken laptop that you’d like to salvage parts off of? Do you have a desktop that could use wifi, but wifi chips are too damn expensive?
If you answered ‘yes’ to all the questions above, then keep reading more to learn how I (and hopefully you!) saved money by salvaging a wifi chip from a broken laptop.

Introduction Link to heading Have you felt the need to constantly stay on your phone? Maybe your usage is not constant, but frequent? I’ve talked with my friends and family about the constant anxiety that we all feel when a smartphone is not in our hands. The root cause has been studied to death and we all know how the algorithms on various websites and apps have essentially reprogrammed our brains to crave more media.

How to manage a server on a network you don't control?

Preface Link to heading Most students in colleges probably don’t have their own server hardware using the campus WiFi. There are several issues with this configuration:
You don’t control the network, so your server can go offline in case of a planned/unplanned outage All your traffic is probably recorded You’re probably MITMed if they’re using an SSL Proxy You don’t know if your server will get the same IP address as the last time or not You probably have some sort of webpage based login preventing automatic WiFi connection You’re a normal person who does not own a server in the first place(lol) You’ll probably not want to use such a network for anything other than Spotify and some gaming.

Preface Link to heading I’ve always been a big Linux guy. I started running Linux back while I was studying for my bachelors. Since I had no clue which distro was good or bad, I had to go with the most meme-worthy one. I started out with Arch Linux because I saw a meme that went like: “I run Arch btw” on reddit. I didn’t quite get what the hype was all about initially, had I known the pain and suffering that I will have to go through just to get the system to boot, I would thought twice before taking the jump.
